Tips & Procedures
The importance of tattoo aftercare cannot be understated. Not only does it preserve the quality of the tattoo for longer, but it also protects the skin from the possibility of infection.
Taboo Tattoo recommends following these essential tattoo aftercare tips and procedures:
- Wash your hands. Remove bandage after 2 to 4 hours. Gently wash the area with warm soapy water, making sure to remove all traces of blood, bloodspots and excess cream. Gently rub in a small amount of Bepanthen cream so that it disappears into the tattoo. Rebandage the tattoo with cling wrap before going to bed.
- A protective scale will form on your tattoo within 1 to 3 days of leaving the studio. It is there for the protection of your tattoo and will fall away by itself after 5 to 10 days, provided you use the recommended cream, Bepanthen, as part of your tattoo aftercare routine. Apply the cream 3 to 4 times daily. Only use a small amount, and be sure to rub it in well. DO NOT pick or scratch the scale, as this will damage your tattoo.
- Gently wash the tattoo when you shower, then pat your tattoo dry with a clean towel. DO NOT wipe or soak your tattoo. DO NOT have a bath.
- DO NOT expose your new tattoo to sunlight for at least 2 weeks until completely healed. Once it has healed, use sunscreen as part of your tattoo aftercare routine to prevent fading. DO NOT go swimming in salt water, rivers or swimming pools until all the scale has fallen away. DO NOT apply Vaseline or greasy lotions of any kind.
When you book an appointment or pop in for a tattoo at Taboo Tattoo, you can rest assured that you’ve been tattooed in a clean Health Department approved studio with tattoo aftercare procedures that ensure your health and wellbeing. Individual sterilised needles and tubes are used, along with disposable wipes, bandages, colours etc.
Anything that is not disposable (e.g. power box, clip cord, armrest) is covered with disposable plastic to prevent cross-contamination. This studio is regularly inspected by the Health Department and operates above the high standards set forth by them.
The quality and success of your new tattoo is dependent on you following the above tattoo aftercare advice.
Please do not hesitate to call or come and see us if you have any concerns with the healing of your tattoo.
